RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada swimming and diving team lost its first dual meet of the 2010-2011 season 170-125 to #5 California at Lombardi Pool Friday afternoon.
Sophomore Mengjiao Mi (Beijing, China) led the Wolf Pack with three individual first place finishes. Mi posted a time of 5:07.41 to win the 500 yard freestyle. Mi also took first in the 100 yard freestyle and the 200 yard freestyle with times of 52.14 and 1:51.65, respectively.
Chavisa Thaveesupsoonthorn (So., Bangkok, Thailand) swam 2:06.91 to finish second in the 200 yard backstroke. Thaveesupsoonthorn took fifth in the 100 yard backstroke. Sophomore Ashley Kunz (Boise, Idaho) also scored points for the Wolf Pack with third place finishes in the 100 yard breaststroke and the 200 yard breaststroke. Kunz placed sixth in the 50 yard freestyle.
Freshman Carly Colin (Mission Viejo, Calif.) turned in a fourth place finish for the Wolf Pack in the day's longest event, the 1000 yard freestyle. Lauren Vessie (So., Reno, Nev.) swam 11:14.69 to take fifth in the 1000 yard freestyle.
Gabby Guieb (So., Seattle Wash.) swam 2:10.50 to finish fourth in the 200 yard butterfly. Marichi Gandionco (Sr., Quezon City, Philippines) placed sixth in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:12.55.
The Wolf Pack divers swept the 1-meter and 3-meter events, with Freshman Grace Huang (Kaohsiung City, Taiwan) leading the group. Huang posted scores of 306.60 on the 1-meter and 335.55 on the 3-meter to take first in both events. Aniesa Debaji (Jr., Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) scored 300.68 to take second on the 3-meter and 257.63 to finish third on the 1-meter. Freshman Stephanie Hansen (Surrey, British Columbia, Canada) completed the Wolf Pack sweep, taking second on the 1-meter and third on the 3-meter. Heather Ramirez (Sr., Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Melyssa Charlton (Jr., Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) also recorded solid scores.
Nevada will return to Lombardi Pool October 2 at 11 a.m. for the Silver vs. Blue Intersquad Meet.
