With his ever-growing commitment to college football on display each Fall Saturday, you might think the gridiron is all Virgil Green is concerned with. Take a look at what he does in his spare time however and another, very different theme arises.
A frequent volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club and an instructor at a youth football camp this summer, Green is intent on giving back to the community by helping young men grow, both as people and athletes.
"I want kids to know that it doesn't matter where you come from or who you are," Green said. "You can make it."
This commitment to athletic and personal success is something Green has passed on to not only younger people in this community, but within his own family as well. Jeremiah Green, Virgil's younger brother is now a member of the Wolf Pack. Not surprisingly he overcame challenges, doing it the hard way, coming to Nevada after a season at The College of Sequoias in Tulare, Calif.
"You have to keep going," the elder Green said. "When you want something, you just don't stop until you get it."
That focus is something that Virgil Green has taken to the football field, the classroom and the community in the hopes of not only becoming a better athlete, but a better human being as well.
