RENO, Nev. - University of Nevada outfielder Nick Melino has been named to the California College League All-League Team for his play this summer with the Santa Barbara Foresters. The Las Vegas product enters his junior season for the Wolf Pack this year and was in consideration for CCL Player of the Year honors.
Melino ranked third in the league with is .365 average, was third with 57 hits and tied for fifth with five home runs. He collected nine doubles, three triples, stole 10-of-15 bases and drove in 28. During the summer he produced a 10-game hit streak, had a team-high 17 multi hit games and added eight multi RBI contests.
The Foresters won the CCL title going 29-7 and posted a 40-9 overall mark. The team has qualified for the National Baseball Congress tournament in Wichita, Kan. and open play in the 32-team field on Wednesday with the Casa Grande Cotton Kings from Arizona.
