RENO, Nev. - A pair of University of Nevada seniors were drafted on day two of the 2010 First-Year Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday. Outfielder Westley Moss and right-handed reliever Tyler Graham were selected today. The draft will conclude on Wednesday.
A product of Irving, Texas, Moss was drafted in the 16th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks as the 481st player. A year ago he was taken in the 34th by the Cleveland Indians but chose to return for his senior season. He played center field the last two seasons for the Wolf Pack, after transferring from Santa Rosa Junior College and started 108 games and played in 112. This past year he hit .283 with 42 runs scored, six doubles, two triples, 21 runs batted in and a WAC leading 21 stolen bases. In 2009 he earned second-team All-Western Athletic Conference honors after hitting .305 with 46 runs scored, seven doubles, three triples, 18 RBI and 15 stolen bases. The 21 stolen bases this season is tied for the seventh best single season at Nevada and his 36 career stolen bases are tied for the seventh best total in Pack history.
Graham also played two seasons for the Pack after transferring from Sierra College. The Shingle Springs, Calif. native was drafted in the 22nd round by the Kansas City Royals as he 659th player. Working as the team's closer this season he went 4-6 with 10 saves and a 4.17 ERA which helped him earn second-team All-WAC honors. Making 23 appearances the right-hander pitched 41 innings and struck out 34. The 10 saves is tied for the best single season total in school history and ranked second in the WAC. His 11 career saves ranks third at Nevada. In two seasons at Nevada he went 6-8, recording 11 saves, pitched 88.1 innings in 46 appearances and struck out 77 while walking just 29.
