RENO, Nev. - Kevin Panzer of Mission Viejo, Calif., has signed a national letter of intent to study and play basketball at the University of Nevada beginning in 2010-11, Wolf Pack head coach David Carter announced Sunday.
A 6-8, 190-pound forward, Panzer comes to Nevada from Capistrano Valley High School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. A first-team All-South Coach League selection and team co-MVP, he averaged 15.7 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per game this season. Panzer made 49.3 percent of his field goal attempts as a senior, including 34 percent from three-point land. He set the school single-season school record for rebounds (333) and was second in blocked shots (110) as a senior and ended his career ranked first in all-time blocks (164) and second in rebounding (573).
"We are very fortunate to be getting a player as talented as Kevin in May," Carter said. "He is a highly skilled basketball player, and we are very excited to have him in our program."
Panzer joins guards Jordan Burris of Bakersfield, Calif., Deonte Burton of Compton, Calif., Derrell Conner of East Chicago, Ind., and Jordan Finn of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and center Illiwa Baldwin of Queensland, Australia, in this year's recruiting class.
