RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada track and field team had four student-athletes qualify for the 2010 West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas May 27-29.
La Tijera Avery (high jump), Marissa Hammond (javelin), Cristina Hibbert (400m hurdles) and Gina Deckard (100m hurdles) all finished the year ranked in the top 48 in the West Region to qualify for the 2010 West Preliminary Round.
Avery is ranked 23rd in the West Region in the high jump with a mark of 1.75m. She won a bronze medal at the 2010 WAC Outdoor Championships. Avery's high jump PR is 5'8.75" which is fourth all-time at Nevada.
Hammond is ranked 29th in the West Region in the javelin with a throw of 46.28m. She finished second in the javelin at the 2010 WAC Outdoor Championship and her javelin PR is 155'1" which is fifth all-time at Nevada.
Hibbert is ranked 30th in the West Region in the 400m hurdles with a time of 60.36. Hibbert finished fourth in the 400m hurdles at the 2010 WAC Championship. Her 400m PR is 60.36 and the time is fourth all-time at Nevada.
Deckard is ranked 31st in the West Region in the 100m dash with a time of 13.74. Despite a runner impeding her race, Deckard took seventh in the finals of the 100m hurdles at 2010 WAC Championships. Her 100m hurdle PR is 13.74 and it's the second-fastest time in school history.
First rounds of the championships will occur in Austin, Texas (west site) and Greensboro, N.C. (east site) on May 27-29. The top 12 athletes in individual events from both the West and East sites will make up the 24 athletes that will compete in the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 9-12.
