Nevada Closes Out WAC Regular Season Hosting Louisiana Tech
 The University of Nevada (31-19-1, 11-8-1 WAC) will close out the Western Athletic Conference regular season hosting Louisiana Tech (26-25, 10-10 WAC) in a four-game series at Peccole Park.  Friday's doubleheader gets underway at 2 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday's single games starting at 1 p.m.
 Currently the Wolf Pack are in third place with an 11-8-1 record with the Bulldogs 1.5 games back in fourth with a 10-10 record.  Nevada would need to sweep LA Tech to move past New Mexico State (14-9-1) into second place and could possible overtake first place Fresno State (13-7) depending on this weekend's games.  NMSU is done playing WAC games while FS hosts Sacramento State.  The Pack, FS and NMSU have already secured spots in next week's WAC Tournament in Mesa, Ariz.  LA Tech, Hawai'i (9-11), San Jose State (8-12) and Sac State (6-14) are still battling for the remaining three spots with one weekend remaining in conference play.
 Nevada leads the series with LA Tech 33-9 which have all been WAC contests.  In games played in Reno the Pack hold a 16-3 advantage.  Nevada won three of the four games played last season in Ruston, La. by scores of 8-5, 11-7 and 4-1 before falling 17-14 in game four.  In the last series played at Peccole Park, Nevada swept the four games by scores of 11-6, 14-3, 7-6 and 6-4 during the 2008 season.

TEAM: Nevada along with Fresno State and New Mexico State have qualified for the WAC Tournament next week at HoHoKam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz., May 26-30...Nevada's 31 wins this season surpassed its 2009 total of 25 and is the 7th time the Pack have won 30 more more games in a season since 2000...Nevada's 11 WAC wins is one more than its total of 10 last season...Nevada has won its last two WAC series going 3-1 vs. SJSU and at Sac State which are the two conference series wins this season...The Pack played two long 12 inning games in back-to-back Sunday's at Hawai'i(5/2) winning 8-7 in 4:33 and falling to SJSU(5/9) at home 6-4 in 4:21...Nevada has taken advantage of the 10-run rule five times this season with four coming in WAC play, 11-0 at Sac State(5/16), 17-2 at NMSU, 17-6 vs. FS and 14-4 vs. FS while being 10-runned once in 8 innings at NMSU 17-7...Nevada's 2.62 doubles per game and 131 total doubles ranks 22nd in NCAA I, the Pack are 10th with 24 triples and 12th in triples per game at .48 while ranking 36th with a slugging percentage of .517...Nevada has swept two series this season with both coming vs. Seattle at home and on the road going 6-0 against the Redhawks...Nevada's 22 runs at Seattle on Apr. 17 was a season high...The Pack's 10-10 tie at NMSU on Apr. 11 was the first for Nevada since a 1-1 tie with Santa Clara during the 1993 season...The NMSU tie was the fifth for Nevada head coach Gary Powers in 28 seasons as a Division I coach for the Wolf Pack ...After two weather postponements Powers coached his 1,500th game at Nevada vs. Seattle on Apr. 2 which was a 12-10 victory...Nevada won its 400th game at Peccole Park with a 5-4 victory over Seattle on Apr. 4...Nevada's 76 stolen bases leads the WAC and is 31 more than LA Tech's 44...Nevada won 2-of-3 games from #18 UC Irvine...Powers is in his 28th season and is the longest tenured coach in the history of Nevada athletics...Powers won his 800th game at Nevada last season when the Pack defeated Oregon 6-5 on March 12, 2009...Nevada ranks fourth in hitting (.313), second in pitching (5.23ERA) and third in fielding (.967) in the WAC... In WAC play the Pack are second in hitting at .332, first in pitching with a 5.57 ERA and fourth in fielding at .973...Nevada was picked to finish 6th in the preseason coaches' poll.

AT THE PLATE:  In the last 2 weeks 1B-Shaun Kort has set the school record for doubles and games played...Kort needs one hit for 300 in his career and 3 doubles will give him 26 to set the single season doubles record...Nevada boasts four of the top 8 hitters in WAC play in LF/DH-Nick Melino(.455,1st), Kort(.438,2nd), 2B-Cullen Mahoney(.429,4th) and OF-Brian Barnett(.403,8th) as all four are batting over .400 in conference play...Barnett needs one home run to tie Matt Ortiz(2000), Glen Carson(1998) and Lyle Overbay(1999) for the 10th best single season in school history and two doubles to tie John DeRicco(1989), Joe Inglett(1999) and Andy Dominique(1995) for 8th on Pack single season list...Barnett did not play for the first time this season in game 2 of the doubleheader at Sac State(5/15) but since has gone 6-for-6 with 6 runs scored, a double, a triple, 3 home runs and 10 RBI in the the last 2 games...Barnett made his first start at DH at Sac State(5/16) and was 3-for-3 with a triple, 2 home runs and a Pack season-high 7 RBI...Melino(.405,1st), DH-Brock Stassi(.374,7th) and Barnett(.372,9th) are in the top 10 overall in WAC hitting with Kort ranking 13th at .368...In the last 2 games at DH Stassi is 4-for-8 with 4 runs scored, a double, 2 home runs and 7 RBI...Melino is batting .475(29-of-61) with 18 runs scored, 9 doubles, 3 home runs and 17 RBI during a currrent career-high 16-game hit streak that includes 10 multi hit games...Melino's 16-game hit streak is the longest by a Pack player this season, tied for the longest active streak in the WAC and tied for third longest of the season in the conference with 17 being the longest...Melino has hits in 27 of the last 28 games and is hitting .471(49-of-104) with 28 runs scored, 14 doubles, 4 home runs and 29 RBI in the those 28 games producing 15 multi hit games, 8-two hit and 7 three-hit contests...Kort started the FS series with hits in his first 8 at bats going 3-for-3 in game 1 and 5-for-5 in game 2 before walking his first three plate appearances in game 3 before being retired...Kort's stretch of hits in consecutive at bats was 9 dating back to the final game at Seattle...Melino(.533), Mahoney(.528) and Kort(.505)  are 1st, 2nd and 5th in on base percentage in WAC play while Melino(.490), Stassi(.478) and Kort(.463) are 2nd, 3rd and 7th overall in the conference...Rodland tied his career high with 5 hits going 5-for-7 with 2 runs scored, a double and an RBI at Hawai'i(5/2)...Rodland and Kort have each collected 5 hits in game this season which is the high by a Pack ON THE MOUND:  RHP-Tyler Graham earned saves in his last 3 outings, both games of the doubleheader at Sac State(5/15) and vs. UCD(5/18) facing just 14 batters in 4 innings...Nevada is 23-13 when the usual weekend pitchers start on the mound: LHP-Chris Garcia (8-3), RHP-Tom Jameson (4-3), RHP-Jeremy Cole (6-2) and LHP-Brock Stassi(5-5)...Stassi, was named May, 10-16 WAC Pitcher of the Week, for the second time this season, after pitching his first career shutout at Sac State(5/16) allowing just 3 hits, walked 3 and struck out 6 as the Pack won 11-0 in 7 innings...Cole was named May 3-9, WAC Pitcher of the Week after allowing 3 hits in tossing a 5-0 shutout vs. SJSU facing just 3 hitters over the minumum...Cole and Stassi each have pitched 3 complete games with Jameson pitching the only 9-inning complete game...Cole pitched 3 consecutive complete games until his start at Sac State(5/15)... Jameson pitched his first complete game and the first 9-inning complete game by a Pack pitcher this season in a 10-2 victory over SJSU(5/8) allowing 2 runs on 6 hits to improve to 3-1...Stassi was named Apr. 12-18, WAC Pitcher of the Week after allowing a run on 2 hits in 8 innings as the Pack won 4-1 at Seattle(4/18)...LHP-Chris Garcia struckout a career-high 9 in his victory at Hawai'i(4/30) allowing 1 run on 5 hits in 7 innings...Cole (3-1) lost for the first time allowing 1 run on 3 hits in a 1-0 loss at Hawai'i tossing his second complete game in a row...Garcia tossed 5 no hit innings and Jameson pitched 4 innings of one hit ball as the duo combined on a one-hit 22-0 shutout at Seattle(4/17)...Garcia and Stassi lead the team with 6 wins which is tied for first in the WAC while Cole and Jameson have 4... Freshman RHP-Jared Harvey has earned wins in his last two outings at Sac State(5/15) and vs. UCD(5/18) which are his first 2 career wins...Stassi pitched a gem at NMSU allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and struck out 7 in the 17-2, 7-inning complete game victory...Stassi struck out a career-high 11 in a 1-0 victory at CSUB(3/13) tossing 7 shutout innings...Stassi(3.43ERA), Cole(3.49ERA), Jameson(4.35)  and Garcia(4.82) rank 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th in the WAC in ERA...Cole(.234), Stassi(.249), and Garcia(.250)  are 1st, 3rd and 4th in opponent batting average in the conference...RHP-Beau Witsoe has 2 saves and 3 wins on the season...Graham leads the team and is second in the WAC with 7 saves while Witsoe, Cole and Jameson are second on the team and tied for 9th in the conference with 2 each...RHP-Jesse Rasner has a 1.38 ERA in WAC playing pitching 13 innings with 10 strikeouts and in his last 7 appearances has a 1.15 ERA in 15.2 innings on the mound...Graham tops the Pack with 18 appearances while RHP-Jayson McClaren, Cole, Witsoe and LHP-Mat Keplinger have 15...Keplinger's loss at NMSU was his first decision in 3 seasons at Nevada ...RHP-Rickey Denham has made 5 starts this season...10 different pitchers have earned wins this year...Pack pitchers have allowed 33-of-94(35%) of inherited runners to score.

Brock Stassi - Feb. 15-21 WAC hitter and Collegebaseballinsider.com West Region Player of the Week after hitting hit .818 (9-for-11) with six runs scored, a double, two home runs and 5 RBI in three games.

 

  Brock Stassi - Mar. 23-29 WAC Hitter of the Week and Collegebaseballinsider.com West Region Player of the Week, earning both honors for the second time this season, after batting .875(7-for-8) with 3 runs scored, a double, 3 triples, a home run, an RBI, a 2.125 slugging percentage, a .909 on base percentage and was intentionally walked 3 times in the UCI series.
  Brock Stassi - Apr. 12-18 WAC Pitcher of the Week, won his team leading fifth game of the season, allowing just one run on 2 hits with 6 strikeouts in 8.0 innings pitched in a 4-1 victory against Seattle, the lone run allowed came in the first inning as he then pitched 7.1 shutout innings, retired 11 batters in a row and 15 of the final 16 that he faced with the only runner reaching on an error, faced just three hitters in an inning five times, only four batters reached base in his eight-inning performance.
 

Brian Barnett - Apr. 12-18 WAC Hitter of the Week,  after batting .500 (8-for-16) with 8 runs scored, 4 doubles, a home run and 8 RBI, posting a 938 slugging percentage and an on base percentage of .579 with three multi-hit games during the week.

 

Jeremy Cole - May 3-9 WAC Pitcher of the Week, pitched a complete game shutout as Nevada defeated San Jose State 5-0 in the second game of a double-header sweep on Saturday. The performance marked his third consecutive complete game pitched. Cole allowed just three singles, struck out three and did not walk a batter. In five of his seven innings pitched, Cole retired the side. He faced just three batters over the minimum.

  Brock Stassi - May 10-16 WAC Pitcher of the Week, pitched a complete game shutout as Nevada defeated Sacramento State 11-0 on the road to take the series from the Hornets 3-1. Stassi allowed just three hits and struck out six to win his sixth game of the year which ties him for the team lead and equals his career high in a season.
