RENO, Nev. – A pair of Nevada softball players were named to the All-WAC second team in voting by the league’s head coaches, the Western Athletic Conference announced today.
Junior shortstop Danielle Patrick (Chino Hills, Calif.) and junior catcher Noelle Micka (Garden Grove, Calif.) were the two honorees for the Wolf Pack. This year’s team was not selected by position; rather the top 13 vote getters were named to the first team and the next 13 vote getters were named to the second team.
Patrick hit .328 in WAC play with three doubles, a pair of home runs and 13 driven in during 20 WAC games. She also scored 14 runs while also reaching base eight times via walk and twice by being hit by a pitch. For the season, Patrick hit .298 with four doubles and tied for the team lead with seven home runs. She also drove in 30 runs and scored 29 on the year.
Micka hit .357 during WAC play with a double, triple and seven runs scored. She missed 12 league games because of injury. For the season, Micka led Nevada with a .336 average, which included six doubles and a triple. She scored 25 runs and drove in 15 in just 33 games played. She tied a school record with a 2010 WAC-best 20-game hitting streak during the season.
This is the second WAC honor for Patrick, was a first-team All-WAC pick as a freshman in 2008.
This is Micka’s third WAC honor in as many years after earning first-team All-WAC accolades as a freshman and sophomore.
The awards were announced Wednesday morning at a banquet in Las Cruces, N.M. where the WAC Tournament begins today.
