Pack Return To WAC Play Hosting Fresno State

After stepping out of Western Athletic Conference play last weekend the Wolf Pack return conference play hosting Fresno State (22-16, 5-3 WAC) this weekend at Peccole Park.  Friday will mark the first home night game of the season at 6:00 p.m.  Saturday’s doubleheader gets underway at 1:00 p.m. as does Sunday’s single game.
The Bulldogs and Wolf Pack split the four-game series played at Pete Beiden Field in Fresno, Calif. last season.  Rain forced a pair of doubleheaders with the Pack sweeping Saturday by scores of 15-11 and 16-4.  FS won both games on Sunday 8-6 and 12-5.
In WAC play FS leads the series 28-20 with the Pack holding a 12-10 advantage at Peccole Park.  In the last series played in Reno on Apr. 25-27, 2008, Nevada won three of the four games.  The Bulldogs took the first game 9-3.  Nevada swept the Saturday doubleheader, that aired on CBS College Sports TV, 4-1 and 7-3.  In Saturday’s first game, catcher Tyson Jaquez broke a 1-1 tie with the three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Nevada scored the final five runs of the second game to win with Jaquez’ two-RBI single in the eighth giving the Pack the lead.  Sunday’s game was also won by the Pack 12-11 on catcher Travis Simas’ three-run homer, that capped a four-run bottom of the eighth inning after FS scored five in the top of the inning to go in front 11-8.

Pack And Aces Play Silver City Classic Before 3631 Fans: The University of Nevada and Reno Aces Baseball Club played the Silver City Classic, an exhibition game at Aces Ballpark on April 6 before 3631 fans. The Aces are the Triple A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.  When the game ended after eight innings the Aces had won by a score of 11-1.  The contest was played using spring training rules as Aces pitchers were used by both teams and the game lasted eight innings.
A fundraiser for the Nevada Dugout Club, the Aces presented a check for $15,000 to the University in the bottom of the fourth inning.  The funds will directly benefit the Wolf Pack baseball program.
Nevada's lone run came in the sixth inning when left fielder Waylen Sing Chow tripled down the right field line with two down and freshman second baseman Cullen Mahoney followed with an RBI single.
The Pack played 12 position players which included Sam Bias a member of the Nevada softball team.  Bias saw two innings of action defensively in left field.
Third baseman Garrett Yrigoyen collected the first Nevada hit of the game in the third inning with an infield single.  Center fielder Westley Moss reached on a bunt single in the fourth inning as the Pack totaled four hits on the night.
