RENO, Nev. – The Nevada softball team begins Western Athletic Conference play this weekend and the Wolf Pack is looking for your support when it takes on Fresno State in a pivotal three-game series.

The first game of the series is set for Friday at 3 p.m. at Hixson Park. The final two games of the series will be a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. Fans can attend the two games on Saturday for just $1 as the Pack looks to breaks its attendance record.

“The race for the WAC title is going to be a dogfight this year and we open conference play with an important series against Fresno State,” Nevada coach Matt Meuchel. “We’d love to see a great crowd out at Hixson Park this weekend as we start our quest for a third straight WAC championship.”

Nevada won the 2008 WAC Championship with a 16-2 league mark. Last year, Nevada and Fresno State tied for the championship as each team finished 15-5 in league play. Fresno State was picked by the league’s coaches to win the title this season with Nevada picked for second.

The Wolf Pack owns one of the top home-field advantages in the country as Nevada is 44-6 all-time at Hixson Park – a winning percentage of .880. Nevada is scheduled to play 21 games at home this season and is 6-1 so far in 2010 at Hixson Park.

The current attendance record at Hixson Park is 610, set in 2008 against Hawai`i.

Nevada is 13-12 on the year after taking on a tough non-conference schedule that saw the Wolf Pack play 10 of its 25 games against ranked opponents. The Pack returned 10 letterwinners from last year’s team that went 40-19 overall and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the last four years. Seven of the Pack’s 15 players are Northern Nevada products.

The normal admission to Hixson Park is $7 for adults and $4 for children (12 and younger) and seniors (65 and older). The entrance to Hixson Park is located off Valley Road by turning east on Manogue Road.
