STOCKTON, Calif. - The University of Nevada (3-3) lost the second game of a doubleheader 6-4 to Pacific (4-2) at Klein Family Field on Saturday. The Tigers won the first game 11-6 and added the victory in game two, to complete sweep. The loss leaves the Wolf Pack 3-3 on the season while UOP improved to 4-2.
With the game tied 1-1 Nevada scored twice in the top of the fifth inning to go in front 3-1. Second baseman Joe Kohan walked with one down and scored on shortstop Kevin Rodland's triple. Rodland also scored on the play after an error by UOP.
The Tigers scored five times in the bottom of the fifth inning to go in front for good. Left fielder Matt Fuson started the inning with a solo home run to make it a one run game at 3-2. After three consecutive singles, catcher Joe Oliveira delivered the big blow with his bases clearing double and he also came around to score on the play after an error on Nevada to make the score 6-3.
Nevada scored an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning to make the final score 6-4.
Pack starter Ricky Denham (0-2) suffered his second loss of the season giving up five runs on seven hits in four innings on the mound. David Rowse (1-0) earned the win giving up four runs, three earned in six innings on the mound. Jake Hummel (2) pitched the final three innings to get the save.
Center fielder Westley Moss (2-for-4), first baseman Shaun Kort (2-for-4,R) and right fielder Brian Barnett (2-for-4,RBI) all had two hits in a game. Rodland and Barnett drove in runs.
Brian Martin (2-for-4) topped UOP with two hits and Oliveira had three RBI on his triple.
The two teams will conclude the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
