TEMPE, Ariz. – The Nevada softball team saw its bat come alive but the Wolf Pack was unable to match the offensive production from the No. 6 team in the country as Nevada fell 10-5 to Arizona in its final game of the Kajikawa Classic, hosted by Arizona State.
Nevada fell behind early as the Wildcats scored six runs in the top of the first inning. Nevada scored in each of the first four innings but was never able to erase the early deficit.
Noelle Micka, Sam Bias and Britton Murdock each had two hits for the Pack, which scored five times on nine hits in the game. The Wolf Pack roughed up Arizona starter Sarah Akamine with all five runs and nine hits but Nevada wasn’t able to get to freshman Kenzie Fowler, who came on in relief in the bottom of the fourth inning. Fowler got the Cats out of a jam there and struck out seven while only allowing on baserunner the rest of the way.
Fowler got the win and improved to 3-0 while Pack starter Mallary Darby (1-2) took the loss.
Nevada (2-3) returns to action next weekend at the Stanford Nike Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
