SEATTLE, Wash. - Gina Deckard broke the school record in the 60m hurdles at the UW Indoor Preview Saturday with a time of 8.55.
Deckard's time of 8.55 beat the previous school record of 8.58 set by Chanika Corley in 2003.
Deckard's record-breaking mark beat her previous PR of 8.59 which she set earlier this season. She finished seventh overall in the event and her time is third on this year's WAC 60m dash performance list.
"Gina continues to light up the world in her hurdling and we are really proud of her - it's very exciting," head coach Shantel Twiggs said. "She ran decent but there is room for improvement and we are looking forward to going to WAC where she can really put things together. Her time has a possibility to drop at WAC and this was a big confident booster for her."
In the shot put Jalessa Jeffery recorded a PR with a throw of 13.30m (43-07.75). She finished 12th overall in the event.
"Jalessa's really been putting together good throws," Twiggs said. "We are really excited for her she should be a dominant force for us at the WAC Championships."
Deirdre Pettigrue took first in her section of the 200m dash with a time of 26.37. Deckard and Cristina Hibbert each took second in their sections of the 200m dash with time of 25.88 and 25.50 respectively.
Olivia Morgan took second in her section of the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.53. In the high jump Cortney Beasley and La Tijera Avery tied for second in their flight with a jump of 1.62m (5-03.75).
"The meet as whole was not quite what we hoped for but there is room for improvement," Twiggs said. "We need to be able to step it up and compete. I'm excited about the WAC Indoor Championships and we want to try and improve on our indoor finish from last year."
Nevada will compete in the 2010 WAC Indoor Championships in Boise, Idaho February 25-28.
