COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Nevada junior and rifle team member Dempster Christenson won the men's junior division at the 2010 Winter Air Gun Championships Sunday.
The event, which differs from traditional meets in that it was an individual competition, was held at the National Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
"Dempster shot superbly," Nevada head coach Fred Harvey said.
Christenson finished in the top three of the men's junior category each day, taking the top spot on day two and day three with scores of 695.2 and 693.1 respectively.
Christenson's tournament was punctuated by his exceptional score on day two. In the six stations of the competition that day he posted one score of 96, four scores of 99 and one score of a perfect 100. The scores posted by Christenson on the last two days of the weekend were the only ones that eclipsed 690 points.
Nevada will compete as a team again Saturday February 12, 2011 in the NCAA Qualifying tournament.
