Box Score RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada women's basketball team (4-1) defeated North Carolina State (3-3) 74-70 Friday in the first game of the 2010 John Ascuaga Nugget Classic. The Wolf Pack was led by senior forward Shavon Moore who recorded her first double-double of the season, 12th of her career.
Moore accounted for 26 points, going 11 for 17 from the floor and 4 for 5 from the free-throw line. Moore also recorded 12 rebounds, four steals and one block. This was Moore's second game with 20 or more points this season.
"It was really just opportunity," Moore said. "I was reading their defense and just converting on their mistakes."
Head coach Jane Albright commended Moore's effort, saying that her unstoppable play earned her tonight's game ball.
Senior guard Tahnee Robinson had another outstanding game, connecting for 17 points during her 39 minutes on the court, including a 3-point shot with 16 seconds left to put Nevada ahead 72-70. Entering this game, Robinson led the Wolf Pack with 25.3 points per game.
Other strong performances came from Nicole Williams and Kayla Williams. Nicole Williams scored 10 points and snagged four rebounds in 23 minutes. Kayla Williams finished the game with 11 points, eight rebounds and two assists.
On the defensive side, Kate Kevorken grabbed four rebounds and recorded two steals in just nine minutes of play.
"I'm really proud of this team," Albright said. "This was a great win for a great team. Today we played like we practice."
Nevada returns to action Saturday against San Diego State in the Nugget Classic championship game. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
