RENO, Nev. - The Reno Bighorns selected former University of Nevada All-America Nick Fazekas, a 6-11 power forward, with the first overall pick of the 2010 NBA Development League Draft. Fazekas played four seasons for the Wolf Pack with his senior season being 2006-07.
Originally drafted in the second round of the 2007 NBA Draft with the 34th pick by the Dallas Mavericks. He saw action in 26 games during the 2007-08 season with the Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers.
Fazekas, from Arvada, Colo., was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year in each of his last three seasons at Nevada, becoming the second player in league history to earn the award three consecutive years, and earned All-America honors as a senior. He lead Nevada to four consecutive WAC regular-season titles and NCAA Tournament berths, and joined by fellow senior teammate Kyle Shiloh, ended his basketball career as the winningest player in school history with a 106-27 record in his four years at Nevada.
One of three players in the country to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in 2006-07, Fazekas ranked second in the WAC and 19th in the nation in scoring with 20.4 points per game and led the conference and finished fifth in the NCAA in rebounding at 11.1 boards per contest that year. Nevada's career-leading scorer with 2,464 points and its second-leading rebounder with 1,254 boards, he became the first player in school history to score at least 2,000 points and pull down 1,000 rebounds in his career. Fazekas also finished third in scoring and second in rebounding in the WAC career recordbook.
