With the loss, Nevada …
- Improved to 7-1 on the season, 497-435-33 overall (104th season) and 117-95 as an FBS school.
- Coach Chris Ault improved to 213-97-1 in his 26-year career.
- Improved its advantage in the all-time series between the teams to 17-4
SIX IN A ROW VS. AGGIES: With the win, Nevada took its sixth straight victory over Utah State and improved to 17-4 all-time against the Aggies. Nevada has not lost to Utah State since the Aggies joined the WAC. Nevada coach Chris Ault has never lost to Utah State and improved to 9-0 in the series.
KAEPERNICK NOW FOURTH ALL-TIME: Colin Kaepernick rushed for 102 yards on just eight carries and moved into fourth all-time in NCAA history in rushing yards by a quarterback. He entered the game in seventh place and passed Ohio’s Kareem Wilson, Air Force’s Dee Dowis and Kent State’s Joshua Cribbs for fourth place. He now has 3,677 career rushing yards and 52 career rushing touchdowns.
KAEPERNICK SETS WAC MARK: With the 102 rushing yards, Kaepernick passed Dee Dowis for most rushing yards by a quarterback in conference history. The former Air Force star had 3,612 yards from 1986-89. Kaepernick is now at 3,677.
KAEPERNICK PASSES BEAVERS: With 190 passing yards on the night, Kaepernick moved past Eric Beavers (1983-86) in career passing yards at Nevada. Kaepernick is now in second place with 8,746. Beavers had 8,629. The top spot is held by David Neill at 10,901.
SCORE EARLY: Nevada took the opening kickoff and went down the field 77 yards in 12 plays, scoring with an 8-yard pass from Colin Kaepernick to Mike Ball. This marks the seventh time in eight games that Nevada has scored on its opening drive. Six of those scores have been touchdowns.
BALL EXPLODES: Sophomore running back Mike Ball has his best game of the season on Saturday night with three touchdowns for the Pack. Ball ran for 58 yards on just six carries and two touchdowns – a 5-yard run in the second quarter and then a 35-yard run in the third quarter. Ball caught his first career touchdown pass last game against Hawaii. Now, Ball has touchdown receptions in back-to-back games after hauling in an 8-yard score from Kaepernick in the first quarter.
MOCH IS A MONSTER: Senior defensive end Dontay Moch, who was recently named a quarterfinalist for the Lott Impact Trophy, had another strong night against Utah State. Moch had just three tackles on the night but two were for a loss (he had another TFL negated due to a Utah State penalty). In Moch’s last four games, he has recorded 13 tackles for loss. He extended his Nevada- and WAC-record in career TFLs to 57.0. Moch is now 13th in NCAA history with that total.
HALE SCORES FIRST: Sophomore running back became the 12th Nevada player to score a touchdown this year when he hauled in a 20-yard pass from Colin Kaepernick in the third quarter. It was Hale’s first career touchdown. Hale also had three carries for 15 yards.
ET CETERA: Utah State won the toss and deferred to the second half … Nevada received the opening kickoff and the Aggies defended the north goal … Running back Lampford Mark made his first start of the season … Safety Dean Faddis started for the first time since the season opener … Nevada opened in a double-tight end set (Zach Sudfeld in addition to Virgil Green) … Kevin Grimes set a career high with 11 tackles … Nevada played its first turnover-free game of the season offensively … Nevada is now bowl eligible for the sixth straight season … Kaepernick moved into a tie for second place in Nevada history in rushing touchdowns with 52, tying him with Charvez Foger (1985-88). He is one back of the school record of 53, held by Chris Lemon (1996-99) … Mike Ball moved into third place all-time at Nevada in kick return yards with 1,157 as he passed Ronnie Hardiman ... Courtney Randall recorded a career high with 93 yards on the night.
QUARTERBACK CLUB: This week’s Quarterback Club will again be held at Peppermill. Ault will review last week's game and go over game film at each game. He will also introduce players from the team and hold a question and answer session with the fans. The luncheons are open to the public. Doors at the Peppermill will open at 11:30 a.m. and the luncheon program begins at noon. Luncheon cost is $17 at the door. The room will be announced the day of the luncheon. The 2010 Quarterback Club Luncheons will be held each Monday following Nevada football games with luncheons scheduled for Sept. 13, 20, 27; Oct. 4, 11, 18; and Nov. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.
NEXT UP: Nevada will hit the road for the first of back-to-back road games when it travels to Moscow, Idaho to face the Idaho Vandals. The game is scheduled for a WAC Sports Network broadcast at 2 p.m., KAME in Northern Nevada.
