RENO, Nev. - The blue squad defeated the silver team 134-106 Saturday at the University of Nevada swimming and diving team's annual Blue and Silver Intersquad meet.
Sophomores Mengjiao Mi (Beijing, China) and Chavisa Thaveesupsoonthorn (Bangkok, Thailand) led the blue team swimmers. Mi took first in the 100-yard, 200-yard and 1000-yard freestyle races. Thaveesupsoonthorn finished first in the 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke and 400-yard IM. Freshman Carly Colin (Mission Viejo, Calif.) also turned in strong performances for the blue squad, posting a second place finish in the 1000-yard free and taking third in the 200-yard free and 400-yard IM.
Alysse Ploussard (So., Reno, Nev.) posted three top-three finishes to lead the silver team. Sophomore Gabby Guieb (Seattle, Wash.) and senior Marichi Gandionco (Quezon City, Philippines) also scored points for the silver squad by finishing first and second in the 100-yard butterfly. Guieb took second in the 400-yard IM and third in the 100-yard breast.
Freshman diver Grace Huang (Kaohsiung City, Taiwan) led a blue team sweep on the 1-meter. Huang also took first on the 3-meter. Aniesa Debaji (Jr., Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) and senior Heather Ramirez (Mission Viejo, Calif.) led the silver divers.
Nevada will travel to Stanford, Calif. Oct. 15-16 for the PAC/WAC Shootout. In addition to Nevada, other teams attending the meet include #1 Stanford, #5 Cal and San Jose State.
