Nevada Post-Game Notes
At Hawaii
Oct. 16, 2010

With the loss, Nevada …
-    Fell to 6-1 on the season, 496-435-33 overall (104th season) and 116-95 as an FBS school.
-    Coach Chris Ault fell to 212-97-1 in his 26-year career.
-    Fell behind in the all-time series, 8-7.

BIG RETURNS: Nevada got two big returns on special teams in the second half of the game and both set up touchdowns. First was a 44-yard punt return by Rishard Matthews in the third quarter that went all the way to the Hawaii 17. Colin Kaepernick plunged in from a yard out seven plays later for Nevada’s first score. In the fourth quarter, Mike Ball reeled off an 84-yard kickoff return that set the Pack up for a Kaepernick-to-Taua pass play for Nevada’s second score of the game. Matthews’s punt return was the Pack’s longest since Alex Rosenblum had a 56-yarder in 2007. It is believed that Ball’s return is Nevada’s longest since Del Bates had an 89-yarder (for a TD) against Boise State in 1988, which is the last time a Pack player returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

MARSHALL WITH A TURNOVER: For the third straight game, Nevada junior linebacker Brandon Marshall recorded a turnover for the Wolf Pack defense. Marshall recovered a Hawaii fumble in the second quarter. The recovery comes on the heels of interceptions against UNLV and San Jose State.

MOCH IS A MONSTER: With three tackles for a loss, including two sacks, Dontay Moch extended his WAC-best and Nevada-best career tackles for loss record to 55.0. He also improved his career sack total to 4.5 for his career, five short of the Nevada and WAC record of 31.5 held by Jorge Cordova.

ET CETERA: Hawaii won the opening toss and deferred to the second half … Nevada received the opening kickoff and defended the south goal … Brandon Wimberly had his first catch of the night in the first quarter and has now caught a pass in all 20 games of his collegiate career … Sophomore guard Chris Barker has started all 20 games of his collegiate career … Nevada was held without a score on its opening drive for the first time this season.

QUARTERBACK CLUB: This week’s Quarterback Club will again be held at Peppermill. Ault will review last week's game and go over game film at each game. He will also introduce players from the team and hold a question and answer session with the fans. The luncheons are open to the public. Doors at the Peppermill will open at 11:30 a.m. and the luncheon program begins at noon.  Luncheon cost is $17 at the door. The room will be announced the day of the luncheon. The 2010 Quarterback Club Luncheons will be held each Monday following Nevada football games with luncheons scheduled for Sept. 13, 20, 27; Oct. 4, 11, 18; and Nov. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

NEXT UP: After seven straight games to open the season, Nevada will have a bye during the weekend of Oct. 23. The Wolf Pack will return home to face Utah State for the Hall of Fame Game at Mackay Stadium on Oct. 30. Kickoff is slated for 1:05 p.m.
