STANFORD, Calif. - The University of Nevada swim team fell to 0-2 after a 99-68 loss to San Jose State in Stanford, Calif. Saturday. First ranked Stanford and #5 Cal also competed in Saturday's meet, however, the Wolf Pack and the Spartans scored this meet as a dual.
Sophomore Chavisa Thaveesupsoonthorn (Bangkok, Thailand) led the Wolf Pack with two top-three finishes. Thaveesupsoonthorn swam 2:08.64 to take first in the 200-yard IM and recorded a third place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (59.98). She also helped Nevada's 200-yard freestyle relay team to a fourth place finish.
Mengjiao Mi (So., Beijing, China) took first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.82) and fifth in the 200-yard IM (2:10.70). Mi also swam on Nevada's third place 200-yard freestyle relay team.
Gabby Guieb (So., Seattle, Wash.) also scored points for the Wolf Pack by helping the 200-yard IM relay team to a third place finish. Guieb later recorded an individual third place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.54).
Sophomore Ashley Kunz (Boise, Idaho) finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.90. Leslie Foley (Fr., Prineville, Ore.) and Kayla Mariani (Jr., Reno, Nev.) each recorded a top-five finish, Foley in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.11) and Mariani in the 200-yard backstroke (1:00.93).
The Wolf Pack return to competition Friday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. against Pacific in Stockton, Calif.
