RENO, Nev. -- The University of Nevada rifle team edged The University of Texas, El Paso on the rifle range Saturday, winning by a slim 24 point margin over the Miners. Nevada shot a total of 4625 to UTEP's 4601.
Nevada was led by Dempster Christenson, who shot a 585 in the small bore and a 589 in the air rifle.
"Dempster had a superb match, his small bore score was good enough for first and his air rifle score put him second," head coach Fred Harvey said. "That small bore score is Olympic level"
Nevada was leading by a single point after the small bore portion of the event, shooting 2282 to the Miner's 2281.The Pack pushed their single point lead to 24 by shooting a 2343 in the air rifle and closing out the event strong.
"The match came down to the last relay," Harvey said.
