RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada track and field team will open the 2010 indoor season on Saturday at the University of Washington's UW Indoor Preview.
The meet will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday and will conclude at 6 p.m. and will be held at the University of Washington's Dempsey indoor track.
This year Nevada will be led by a talented group of veterans who placed in the top-10 at the 2009 WAC Indoor Championships including Gina Deckard, Christy Works, Janet Martinez and Constance McAlman.
Newcomers Jackae Bridges (jumper/sprinter), Christina Hibbert (hurdles/sprints), Katelyn Choukalos (mulit events), Casey Gray (pole vault), Caitlin Owen (pole vault), Sarah Edwards (sprinter) should help contribute to the Pack's success this season.
Last season the Pack finished sixth at the WAC Indoor Championships hosted by Boise State.
Quotes from Head Coach Shantel Twiggs on Nevada's Recruits:
Jackae Bridges - "We are really excited to have Jackae as member of the Wolf Pack family. She adds much needed depth to our jumps program and adds additional versatility in that she not only jumps but she also sprints. She will be an immediate impact player and could flirt with the NCAA Regional qualifying mark as a true freshman."
Cristina Hibbert - "Cristina transferred in late this summer but is a great find. She ran unattached last spring and ran 59.49 in the 400 hurdles. We have some major goals and she will be an impact player for Nevada not only at WAC time but also in the NCAA finals. She is committed not only to being successful but to the process it takes to be successful."
Katelyn Choukalos - "Katey adds much need depth to an already strong multi events group. She has some events to learn but I think she is very eager and committed. She put together some strong performances as a senior and she will build off of that success. Again, we see her as a conference scorer as a true freshman."
Casey Gray and Caitlin Owens - "Casey and Caitlin are among the top vaulters in the state of Nevada last season and we are very excited to have them as members of our program. The addition of Caitlin and Casey adds much needed depth to our vault program. We see these two young ladies clearing some pretty high bars and we are excited for what the future holds."
Sarah Edwards - "Sarah is new to the sport of track and field. She was a soccer player all of her life and decided to pick up track late in her junior year of high school but has shown great aptitude. I am very excited to work with her this year to see how good she really can be."
