RENO, Nev. — University of Nevada alpine skiing coach Evan Weiss was inducted into Dartmouth College’s Athletics Wearters of the Green hall of fame this weekend in Boston.
The Dartmouth Athletics Wearers of the Green was founded in 1984, and inductions are held every five years. To be honored as Wearers of the Green, Dartmouth College students, alumni and coaches must be an All-American; an individual or team national champion; an Olympian; a major league professional; a member of an athletic hall of fame; a first-team All-Ivy member three or more times; an Ivy League Player of the Year in a particular sport; a member of a winning crew in either the International Rowing Association or Eastern Sprints; or a recipient of the Kenneth Archibald Prize, the Alfred E. Watson Trophy, or the Class of 1976 Award.
Weiss earned NCAA All-America honors in each of his two seasons (2005 and 2007) at Dartmouth. He helped Dartmouth to the 2007 NCAA team championship, the school’s first national title in 31 years, and won the silver medal in the giant slalom at the NCAA Championships that year. He also was named the 2005 Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association Skier of the Year and was the top-ranked giant slalom skier in the EISA in 2005 and 2007.
Weiss also spent seven years as a member of the U.S. Ski Team as part of the U.S. Ski Team’s Developmental and Europa Teams.
Weiss just finished his first year as Nevada’s alpine coach, guiding the Wolf Pack to its eighth top 10 national finish in the last nine years. Under his direction, Greg Berger-Sabbatel earned All-America honors in both the men’s slalom and giant slalom, while his alpine skiers turned in a total of 25 top 10 finishes this season.
