RENO, Nev. The Nevada softball team will be making its third NCAA Tournament appearance and second straight this week as the Wolf Pack received an at-large bid on Sunday.
Nevada (39-17) will be traveling to the Palo Alto, Calif. Regional and will be the No. 3 seed at the Regional. The Wolf Pack will take on No. 2 seed Cal Poly on Friday at 3 p.m. at Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium on the Stanford campus. The other first round game of the Regional pits No. 1 Stanford (the No. 8 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament) against No. 4 Portland State at 6 p.m.
“We are very excited to have received a bid to the tournament and it’s nice that we will be able to play close to home,” first-year Nevada coach Matt Meuchel said. “We have a veteran team and these seniors will be playing in their third NCAA Regional so we are looking forward to challenge ahead of us.”
The Regional schedule will feature two games on Friday, three games on Saturday two on the losers’ bracket, and the championship game(s) on Sunday.
Nevada faced Cal Poly earlier this season at the DeMarini Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The Pack dropped a 1-0 decision in that game.
Nevada has not played Stanford this season but the Wolf Pack has played, and beaten, Portland State. The Pack beat the Vikings 11-2 in six innings at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic hosted by UNLV in February.
All of Nevada’s games will be broadcast in Northern Nevada. Details on that will be available later this week. The Pack’s games will also be available via Live Stats at www.nevadawolfpack.com
