RENO, Nev. —  University of Nevada rifle team member Andrew Hickey has been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

Hickey, a native of Sutter, Calif., has a 3.97 GPA and is scheduled to graduate with his degree in biochemistry in May.

This year marks the fourth consecutive year that a member of the Wolf Pack has won the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and the second straight year that a member of the rifle squad has after Meghann Morrill received one in 2008. Former volleyball player Christine Harms was also awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in 2006, while former skier Jesse Carlstrom received the scholarship in 2005.

The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.  The one-time grants of $7,500 each are awarded for fall sports, winter sports and spring sports. Each sports season, there are 29 scholarships available for men and 29 scholarships available for women.

Hickey, who just completed his senior season with the Wolf Pack rifle team, was named a second-team All-American in both air rifle and smallbore this year. He shot every match this season and finished first in air rifle three times. He turned in the team’s best score of the year in air rifle with a 594 vs. Nebraska on Oct. 5 and had three of the team’s top five small bore scores this season.
