SEATTLE, Wash. The University of Nevada track and field team continued preparation for the WAC Indoor Championships by competing in the UW Husky Classic Saturday in Seattle, Wash.
Analisa Serrano placed second in her heat of the 60m dash with a time of 8.01. Serrano also qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.81 in the prelims. She finished third in her section with a PR of 8.74, which is fourth on Nevada’s all-time list.
“Analisa put together a couple of races that where not only a season but also personal best in the 60m hurdles,” head coach Shantel Twiggs said. “She is starting get into racing shape as continues to execute her races, times will drop.”
Gina Deckard finished second in her heat of the 60m hurdles with a PR time of 8.87 which places her fifth in Nevada’s all-time list.
“Gina is starting to put the race together and is only touching the tip of the iceberg,” Twiggs said. “She just missed making the finals but can feel its coming.”
Regal Minyard finished second in her heat of the 200m dash with a time of 26.80. Christy Works finished first in her heat of the 800m dash with a time of 2:16.46, which is 11th on the all-time list. Polly Smith finished fourth in her heat of the 400m dash with a time of 2:18.72.
In the one-mile run, Tiffany Tandy finished 13th in her prelim heat with a time of 5:15.34. Amanda Gramly placed eighth in section one of the 3000m run with a PR of 10:00.83. Gramly’s time places her fifth all-time.
“Amanda is really sharpening up and is in ready mode for the WAC Championships,” Twiggs said. “She almost gave up her indoor season but really wanted this opportunity she will be a force for our distant contingent at the indoor WAC championships.”
Alicia Echevarria recorded a season’s best jump of 3.66m in the pole vault and finished tied for second in her flight.
“Alicia put up a seasons best performance in the pole vault with a jump of 3.66m, just one centimeter off her personal best and she looked great today,” Twiggs said. “The higher bars are coming. And today was her birthday, what a great way to have spent your birthday.”
Cortney Beasley finished first in her section of the high jump with a jump of 1.64m. In the triple jump, Aurelia Houston took eighth in flight one with a jump of 11.06m.
Constance McAlman finished first in her flight of the shot put with a PR throw of 13.69m which is eighth all-time while Jalessa Jeffery took fourth in her flight (11.44m).
“Constance really wants this, she can taste it,” Twiggs said. “As long as she can stay calm, relaxed and focused good things are around the corner.”
Nevada will compete in the UW Open tomorrow in Seattle, Wash., in the last meet before the WAC Indoor Championships Feb. 26-28 in Boise, Idaho.
