RENO, Nev. The Nevada softball team will play eight exhibition games during the fall schedule, first-year coach Matt Meuchel announced today.

The Wolf Pack will open the fall slate this weekend with four games two each on Saturday and Sunday at Christina M. Hixson Park. On Saturday, Nevada will take on Western Nevada Community College at 10 a.m. and will play a team yet to be determined at 2 p.m. On Sunday, the Wolf Pack and WNCC will play a doubleheader beginning at noon.

The following weekend, Nevada will travel to Stockton, Calif., to face four four-year schools. The Pack will take on Cal and Chico State on Oct. 4 and will play Pacific and San Francisco State on Oct. 5.

“We are looking forward to our fall games, in which we expect to have a lot of competition for starting positions for the coming season,” Meuchel said. “We really are looking to sharpen up our defensive play during the fall and take a step toward having a championship lock-down defense. Additionally, the fall gives us an opportunity for our new members to showcase their skills and to see our collective unit compete against outside competition for the first time.”

Because of the nature of the exhibition games, no official statistics will be kept. All of the games this weekend at Hixson Park will be free and open to the public.

The Wolf Pack is coming off the best season in school history in which it won the regular-season Western Athletic Conference title and received an at-large berth to the NCAA Regionals, where the Pack reached the championship game at UCLA.
