RENO, Nev. Senior thrower Inger Appanaitis was named to the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District Second Team Thursday.

 

Appanaitis, a senior from Brookings, Ore., is a biology major with a 3.49 GPA.  CoSIDA All-District honorees are selected based on a combination of academic and athletic success.

 

Appanaitis is preparing for the NCAA National Championships next Thursday and Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.  Appanaitis, who is ranked 12th in the nation in the javelin, will compete in the javelin prelims on Thursday at 12:15 p.m. PT.  The finals are scheduled for Saturday at 12:45 p.m. PT.

 

Appanaitis, who is the school record holder in the javelin (169’5”), has earned several honors this season including serving as a team captain, being named the women’s high point winner at this season’s WAC Outdoor Championships (23 points), placing first in the javelin at the 2008 WAC Outdoor Championships, being named to the USTFCCCA All-Region Team and becoming the first athlete in school history to record regional qualifying marks in the javelin, hammer throw, discus and shot put.  This outdoor season, she also set personal bests in the hammer throw (55.96m, 183’07”), the discus (47.38m, 155’05”) and the shot put (14.45m, 47’5.00”).

 

After the NCAA National Championships, Appanaitis will be participating in the US Olympic Trials June 27-28 in Eugene, Ore.  She recorded an Olympic “B” Qualifying mark in the javelin (168’00”) at this season’s WAC Outdoor Championships.
