NEWS OF THE DAY

SATURDAY, MAY 10
Nevada is in the championship game, but the Pack needs to win twice to win the title. The team has a bisy morning because they have to check out of the hotel before leaving for the park. The team is scheduled to fly back to Reno on a red-eye tonight (via San Francisco) and there is some concern that it might be tough to make the flight if Nevada plays two games today.

Kristin Stith has a blog entry from late Friday night for you. She scored the winning run in Friday night's comeback win over Hawaii.

FRIDAY, MAY 9
Nevada is ready for its second day of the tournament as the Pack will face red-hot Louisiana Tech at 5 p.m. (Pacific) with the winner advancing to the championship game. The tournament has been an exciting one so far and the Lady Techsters have made the most noise. La. Tech, the fourth seed, beat No. 3 Hawaii in the first round and then knocked off No. 2 Fresno State yesterday.

A number of Pack players stayed and watched most of the games yesterday. The team got together for dinner at the hotel. Dave Stevens, the father of assistant coach Annie Stevens, put together a fantastic lasagna dinner that was enjoyed by all. For more on the dinner, take a look at the Photo Album.

Kristin Stith has another blog entry ready this morning. In this edition, she talks about the team's pre-game superstitions, rituals and routines. A staple of the Pack's pre-game preperation is the game of hacky sack.

Friday night update: Oh what a night...
After a tough 4-3 loss to Louisiana Tech in the first game of the day, Nevada battled back into the championship game with a thrilling 2-1 come-from-behind win over Hawaii on Friday in the nightcap. The Pack is in the championship at 5 p.m. (Pacific) on Saturday but will need to win twice for the title.

THURSDAY, MAY 8
The day got off to a great start for the Wolf Pack as top-seeded Nevada got victory No. 1 with a 5-0 win over San Jose State on Thursday. Read more about the shutout win here.

In a bit of a surprise, Nevada will be facing Louisiana Tech on Friday as the fourth-seeded Lady Techsters pulled another upset with a 3-2 win over second-seeded Fresno State in eight inning on Thursday. In the first round, La. Tech knocked off No. 3 seed Hawaii.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 7
The tournament begins today with three first-round games. But the Wolf Pack doesn't play until tomorrow as the No. 1 seed receives a first-round bye in the double-elimination event. The team will practice this morning and have study hall in the afternoon before the players will get some free time.
Nevada's team headquarters for the week is the Waikiki Banyon, just a block from the beach and in the heart of Waikiki. Here's a view from the 32nd floor of the hotel with Diamond Head off to the left.

 

Nevada will play San Jose State in its first game on Thursday as the Spartans beat Utah State on Wednesday, 8-2. For a look at the Wolf Pack, click here for the tournament notes package.

 

 

TUESDAY, MAY 6
Tuesday night, the WAC hosted a banquet for the competing teams and the All-WAC teams were announced. Nevada took home plenty of hardware, including Player of the Year (Vanessa Briones) and Coach of the Year (Michelle Gardner) trophies.
Fifth-year senior Kristin Stith will be writing a postseason blog that will chronicle the team's experience at the WAC Tournament and beyond. Her first entry from Tuesday night can be found right here.
