PALO ALTO, Calif. The University of Nevada track and field team closed out competition in the 34th annual Stanford Invite on Saturday.  Thrower Constance McAlman finished seventh overall in the hammer throw with a mark of 52.77 meters.

Fellow thrower Inger Appanaitis, who hit a regional qualifying mark in the javelin on Friday, finished 10th in the shot put with a throw of 13.04 meters. 

 

In addition to McAlman and Appanaitis’ marks on Saturday, the Pack recorded four other top-20 finishes.

 

Tiffany Sells finished 20th in the 200 meter dash (26.06) while Janet Martinez took 19th in the 5000 meter run with a 17:35.30.

 

Polly Smith finished 15th in the 400 meter hurdles (64.64) while Aurelia Houston took 10th in the triple jump (10.67 meters).  

 

Some of the top track and field teams in the country competed in the Stanford Invite including Stanford, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Baylor, Florida State, Tennessee, BYU in addition to Nevada, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, and San Francisco.

 

Up next for Nevada will be the Mt. Sac Meet in Walnut, Calif., on April 18 and the Woody Wilson Invite in Davis, Calif., on April 19.
