FRESNO, Calif. Katie Holverson delivered another gem for the Nevada softball team against No. 10 Fresno State on Saturday.

A day after tossing a three-hit, 11-inning shutout against the Bulldogs, the sophomore dealt again on Saturday, delivering a five-hit shutout in the Wolf Pack’s 5-0 victory in game two of the day’s doubleheader.

Fresno State won the first game of the day 4-1 but Nevada’s win in the second game gave the Pack a series victory over Fresno State. Nevada is now 29-14 overall and 7-2 (first place) in the Western Athletic Conference.

Nevada’s 5-0 victory on Saturday marks the fifth time this season that Nevada, which is receiving votes in both national polls, has beaten a Top 25 team. It also marks the fifth time under coach Michelle Gardner that Nevada has beaten a ranked Fresno State team.

Holverson went all seven innings, giving up five hits and striking out seven without walking a batter. In her two appearances against Fresno State, Holverson pitched 18 scoreless innings, giving up just eight hits and three walks. She struck out 18 and Fresno State batters hit just .127 against her with only one extra-base hit.

Kym Silagyi provided a bulk of the offense for Nevada as the junior went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBI. Sophomore Sam Bias also drove in a run for the Pack, as did freshman Noelle Micka.

In the first game of the day, Nevada got on the board first as Brittany Puzey plated Micka with a sacrifice fly in the first inning.

But Nevada would go on to commit three errors on the day, leading to a pair of unearned runs for Fresno State.

Nevada now receives a break in the schedule as the Wolf Pack has two weeks off. The team will return to action at home on April 19 with a doubleheader against Hawaii.
