FRESNO, Calif. The University of Nevada track and field team finished in seventh place out of 19 teams at the Cal-Nevada Championships hosted by Fresno State.  After 19 events over the course of two days, Nevada finished with 43.50 points.

 

San Diego finished in first, followed by UCLA, Fresno State, CSU Northridge, UC Davis, UC San Diego, UC Davis, Nevada, UC Santa Barbara and CS San Marcos.

 

Thrower Constance McAlman finished the day with two top-5 finishes.  McAlman placed third in the discus with a throw of 45.27 meters.  She also took third in the shot put with a throw of 13.69 meters.  Both of her marks place her eighth on Nevada’s all-time discus and shot put lists.    

 

McAlman also recorded a top-10 finish, placing sixth in the hammer throw with a throw of 53.83 meters.

 

Fellow throwers Emily Jacobsen and Inger Appanaitis each also recorded a top-10 finish on Saturday.  Appanaitis finished fourth in the hammer throw (55.62 meters), which is the fifth-best throw in Nevada history, while Jacobsen finished sixth in the shot put (12.91 meters).

 

Nevada recorded two more top-10 finishes on the day.  Kereiona Johnson finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.44 while Amanda Boice tied for sixth in the high jump with a jump of 1.65 meters.

 

Up Nevada for Nevada is the Sanford Invite in Palo Alto, Calif. on April 4 and 5.
