EL PASO, Texas Britton Murdock slammed a two-run home run in the seventh inning to power the Nevada softball team to a 4-2 win over UTEP on Thursday at Helen of Troy Field.

Murdock’s blast, her sixth of the season, broke a 2-all tie and made a winner of Katie Holverson (11-4). Holverson’s record went to 11-5 with a loss in game 2 as UTEP took an 8-1 decision.

Nevada is now 24-12 on the season and will be off on Friday. The Wolf Pack will return to WAC play with a doubleheader at New Mexico State on Saturday and a single game against the Aggies on Sunday.

But the Miners came back for two runs in the fifth inning to tie the game. Holverson came on in the sixth and tossed two hitless innings for the Pack. She was given the lead in the top of the seventh inning when Micka singled and Murdock homered to right.

Murdock is now tied with Micka for the team lead in home runs with six.

In game two, UTEP jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning. Nevada cut the deficit to one in the fifth inning when Brittany Puzey had an RBI double. Nevada could have tied the game or taken the lead in the frame but had a pair of runners thrown out at the plate in the inning.
