West Point, N.Y. - The NCAA Championship, being held March 14-15 at West Point, N.Y., concluded Saturday and the University of Nevada rifle team finished eighth overall after competing in air rifle.
After finishing seventh in smallbore with a team aggregate shot of 2257 on Friday, the Wolf Pack shot a 2334 in air rifle to finish in a two-way tie for third place with Army. The Wolf Pack compiled a overall shot of 4591. Alaska-Fairbanks took the overall win and captured their third consecutive NCAA Championship.
Junior Sarah Smith, in her second appearance at the NCAA Championship, led the Wolf Pack in air rifle with a shot of 587 while junior Andrew Hickey, in his first NCAA Championship appearance shot a 586. Smith and Hickey took seventh and eighth overall, respectively. Alaska-Fairbanks’ Patrik Sartz took the overall win in air rifle with a shot of 594.
Senior Meghann Morrill, who participated in her third consecutive NCAA Championship, shot a 585 and true freshman Jessica Klatt shot a 576 in her first appearance in the NCAA Championship. Senior Lee Lemenager, who shot a 554 in smallbore Friday in his second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championship, did not shoot in air rifle.
Finishing behind Alaska-Fairbanks (4662 aggregate) were Army (4652), Texas Christian University (4627), Nebraska (4625), Kentucky (4623), West Virginia (4616), Navy (4610) and the Wolf Pack.
