Fort Worth, Texas Led by freshman Jessica Klatt and senior Lee Lemenager, the University of Nevada rifle team fell to Texas Christian University 4627-4626 last weekend at the NCAA Qualifier.
Klatt and TCU’s Erin Lorenzen shared air rifle win with a shot of 586 each. Junior Sarah Smith finished second with a 585 and senior Meghann Morrill took third with a 584. The Wolf Pack topped TCU in air rifle 2337-2331.
In small bore, Lemenager shot a 575 to finish third, the Wolf Pack’s best small bore finish. Lemenager shared third place with TCU’s Simone Riford. TCU’s Emily Paper took first place with a 578. Klatt and junior Andrew Hickey each shot a 572 to share fourth place while Morrill’s shot of 570 gave her a fifth place finish. TCU took small bore victory 2296-2289.
Sophomore Heather Horn shot as an individual and turned in a 564 in small bore and 578 in air rifle.
By next week, the NCAA is expected to announce the eight invitees for the NCAA Championship on March 14-15, at West Point, NY. The top three regular season scores count for one half of the sum. The other half will come from qualifying this weekend. The top eight teams will be invited to the NCAA Championship.
The Wolf Pack returns home this weekend to conclude its scheduled regular season with a match-up against Air Force. The Wolf Pack will look to extend its unbeaten streak at home to 19.
