SEATTLE, Wash. Samantha Davis (mile), Polly Smith (800m) and Amanda Moreno (3000m) all picked up individual wins at the UW Open Meet hosted by the University of Washington on Sunday.
Moreno ran the second fastest time in school history in the 3000m run with a time of 9:46.40. Her 3000m time is the fastest in the WAC this season. Moreno’s time was also a personal record as she beat her previous personal best by 31 seconds.
Sam Davis, the 2007 WAC Cross Country Freshman of the Year, won the mile and set a personal record with a time of 4:56.80. Polly Smith also placed first for Nevada, winning the 800m run with a personal-best time of 2:16.22.
Constance McAlman threw a six-inch personal record in the weight throw with a throw of 58'6.75", which puts her fourth on Nevada’s all-time weight throw list.
“We are continuing to pull things together as we prepare for the 2008 WAC Championships,” head coach Shantel Twiggs said. “Everyone is starting to pull it together and compete. They want it and they are going after it.”
Christa Avena finished second in the 3000m behind Moreno with a personal best time of 9:58.41. Amanda Gramly recorded her second personal record of the season in the 3000m with a time of 10:07.55.
Alicia Echaverria set a personal record in the pole vault with a jump of 12'0.50". Fellow pole vaulter Muriel Roberge also set a personal record, also recording a jump of 12'0.50".
The UW Open Meet marked Nevada’s last competition before the 2008 WAC Indoor Championships Feb. 29 March 1 in Boise, Idaho.
