TEMPE, Ariz. The University of Nevada softball team saw its offense explode in a pair of victories Saturday at the Kajikawa Tournament hosted by Arizona State.

Nevada (6-3) combined to slam seven home runs in an 8-4 victory over Texas State and a 12-0 (five innings) win over Missouri-Kansas City.

Freshman Britton Murdock hit two home runs against Texas State and was one of a program-record four players who went deep against UMKC.

“We just played really well today,” coach Michelle Gardner said. “It was a little tough early against Texas State but then we really got it going.”

Junior Brittany Puzey also homered against the Bobcats.

Sophomore Katie Holverson started but struggled and was replaced by senior Jordan McPherson, who got the win.

Against UMKC, senior pitcher Richelle Villescas went the distance for her first victory in a Wolf Pack uniform.

“She threw really well today,” Gardner said of Villescas.

Murdock, Sam Bias, Vanessa Briones and Kelsey Starr each homered for Nevada against the Kangaroos.

Nevada will complete play in the tournament today against No. 1 Arizona.
