RENO, Nev. University of Nevada skiing coach Tom Arnstein has resigned to pursue other career opportunities, the university announced Tuesday.
“I want to thank the University of Nevada for the opportunity to coach for the past 10 years,” Arnstein said. “Ten years is a long time, and I am excited about pursuing other career opportunities at this time.”
Arnstein spent the last 10 seasons as Nevada’s head coach, leading the Wolf Pack to six top 10 finishes at the NCAA Championships and four individual national titles. His best season came in 2002 when the Wolf Pack finished sixth at the NCAA Championships and saw two individuals win national titles, including Katerina Hanusova in the women’s 15k freestyle and Tommi Viirret in the men’s giant slalom. Arnstein coached a total of 27 All-Americans and hosted the 2004 NCAA Skiing Championships during his tenure at Nevada.
“Tom Arnstein brought our program to a new level and has built a strong foundation for the future of Wolf Pack skiing,” Nevada Director of Athletics Cary Groth said. “We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
A national search for Nevada’s next skiing coach will begin immediately.
