NEVADA SET TO HOST SECOND PLACE LOUISIANA TECH
After winning two of three road games at Sacramento State last weekend Nevada(25-20, 9-6 WAC) will host second place Louisiana Tech(32-17, 12-6 WAC) in a key three-game Western Athletic Conference series.  Friday and Saturday’s games get underway at 6:00 p.m. with Sunday’s first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m.
Currently the Bulldogs are one and one half games in front of the Wolf Pack with there 12-6 record while the Pack sit in third at 9-6.  LTU closes out WAC play wit the three games in Reno followed by three games at Fresno State.
Nevada leads the series with LTU 21-6 with all 27 games coming in WAC play.  Last season the Bulldogs won two of three games played in Ruston, La. while the Pack won five of the six games played in 2005.
In their seventh season in WAC the Pack have posted a record of 95-98.  Last year Nevada finished fourth with an 11-12 record.  The Wolf Pack’s top finish came in 2003 when the squad placed second to the College World Series Champion Rice Owls with a 19-10 record.

FRESNO STATE ON TOP OF WAC STANDINGS:
Fresno State(11-4) remains atop the Western Athletic Conference standings with an 11-4 record but just three and one half games separate the top four teams and all seven teams are within seven games of the top spot.
Louisiana Tech(12-6) is one half game back of FS and the Wolf Pack(9-6) are two games back of the leaders.  Hawai`i(9-9) is three and one half games back in fourth followed by San Jose State(6-9), New Mexico State(6-12), and Sac State(7-14).
FS travels to SJSU for three games while New Mexico State is at Sacramento State in a series that could decided the sixth and final spot in the WAC Tournament.  Sac State has just the three games remaining with the Aggies and are currently one half game back of them in the standings.  Nevada hosts Louisiana Tech in a battle for third.  Hawai`i is playing a three-game nonconference series at Hawai`i Hilo.

PECCOLE PARK TO HOST 2007 WAC TOURNAMENT:
Nevada’s Peccole Park will be the site of the 2007 Western Athletic Conference Tournament on May 24-27.  Six of the WAC’s seven teams based on regular season play will qualify for the double elimnation tournament with the winner receiving the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament field of 64.
Peccole Park, the 3,000 seat on-campus facility, received three major renovations prior to the 2006 season which will enable the park to host the tournament this season.  FieldTurf and lights were installed which will allow for play in all types of weather and at night.  The third improvement was a new outfield fence.
The 2006 tournament was played in Fresno, Calif. at Fresno State’s 5,575-seat Pete Beiden Field where the host Bulldogs prevailed 8-4 over Hawai`i in the championship.  FS received the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament while UH earned an at-large bid.  The tournament was attended by a total of 5,381 fans over the four days (1,345/day). The title game drew 1,550 to Pete Beiden Field in Fresno, Calif.
Last year marked the first time a WAC baseball tournament had been held since the 1999 season.  That tournament was also hosted by Fresno State and won by Rice.
