Reno, Nev. - University of Nevada senior Konrad Schmidt signed a free agent contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Schmidt (Petaluma, Calif.) finished the 2007 season with a .349 batting average and a team-high eight home runs with 47RBI.
Schmidt won two WAC Hitter of the Week awards during the 2007 season. His first was for the week of February 26-March 4 when he hit .667 (6-9) in a three-game sweep of UNLV. He earned his second award for the week of March 26 - April 1 when he hit .600 (9-15) with four runs and six RBI in a week the Pack went 3-1.
Schmidt transfered to Nevada for his senior season after playing his junior season at the University of Arizona and Santa Rosa Junior College his first two seasons.
