AFTER 10-DAY BREAK PACK HEADED TO SACRAMENTO STATE
After a 10-day break from competition Nevada(23-19, 7-5 WAC) returns to Western Athletic Conference play this weekend traveling to Sacramento State(11-29, 6-12 WAC) for a three-game series with the Hornets.  Friday’s game gets underway at 2:30 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday’s games starting at 1:00 p.m.
This season marks the second for the Hornets in the WAC and a year ago the Wolf Pack won four of the six games.  Sac State won two of three at Hornet Field and the Pack swept the three played at Peccole Park thus Nevada holds a 4-2 series lead in WAC play.
In their seventh season in WAC the Pack have posted a record of 93-97.  Last year Nevada finished fourth with an 11-12 record.  The Wolf Pack’s top finish came in 2003 when the squad placed second to the College World Series Champion Rice Owls with a 19-10 record.

FRESNO STATE ON TOP OF WAC STANDINGS:
Fresno State(11-4) is atop the Western Athletic Conference standings with an 11-4 record but just three games separate the top four teams and all seven teams are within seven games of the top spot.
Louisiana Tech(10-5) is one game back of FS and the Wolf Pack(7-5) are two and one half games back of the leaders.  Hawai`i(8-7) is three games back in fourth followed by San Jose State(5-7), Sac State(6-12), and New Mexico State(4-11).
FS is out of conference this weekend hosting Cal Poly leaving the other six schools to battle for positioning in the WAC standings.  The conference schedule has San Jose State at Louisiana Tech, Hawai`i at New Mexico State, and Nevada travels to Sacramento State.

PECCOLE PARK TO HOST 2007 WAC TOURNAMENT:
Nevada’s Peccole Park will be the site of the 2007 Western Athletic Conference Tournament on May 24-27.  Six of the WAC’s seven teams based on regular season play will qualify for the double elimnation tournament with the winner receiving the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament field of 64.
Peccole Park, the 3,000 seat on-campus facility, received three major renovations prior to the 2006 season which will enable the park to host the tournament this season.  FieldTurf and lights were installed which will allow for play in all types of weather and at night.  The third improvement was a new outfield fence.
The 2006 tournament was played in Fresno, Calif. at Fresno State’s 5,575-seat Pete Beiden Field where the host Bulldogs prevailed 8-4 over Hawai`i in the championship.  FS received the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament while UH earned an at-large bid.  The tournament was attended by a total of 5,381 fans over the four days (1,345/day). The title game drew 1,550 to Pete Beiden Field in Fresno, Calif.
Last year marked the first time a WAC baseball tournament had been held since the 1999 season.  That tournament was also hosted by Fresno State and won by Rice.
