LAS CRUCES, N.M. Third-year Nevada head coach Mark Fox has been named the National Association of Basketball Coaches District 13 Coach of the Year, the coaches’ organization announced Thursday.
The NABC selected 14 district coaches of the year and will announce its National Coach of the Year the weekend of the NCAA Final Four.
Including Thursday’s WAC Tournament quarterfinal win over Idaho, Fox has led the Wolf Pack to a 28-3 record and its fourth consecutive Western Athletic Conference regular-season championship this season. The 28 wins ties the school record for victories in a single season. Nevada has also earned the first top 10 national ranking in school history this year and currently checks in at 10th in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches polls.
Fox was named the 2007 Don Haskins Coach of the Year, becoming the first coach in WAC history to earn that honor three consecutive years. In his three years at the helm of the Nevada program, he has turned in an 80-16 record and guided the Wolf Pack to NCAA Tournament berths in 2005 and 2006.
Fox and the Wolf Pack will take on Utah State in the semifinals of the WAC Tournament on Friday night in Las Cruces, N.M.
