TEAM:  The Pack’s 2-4 record is third best in the WAC behind Hawai`i’s 4-2 mark and San Jose State’s record of 2-2...Nevada is second in the conference in fielding percentage(.962) and fifth in both hitting(.257) and ERA(5.58)... The Pack open the season with 12 road games with the home opener slated for Tuesday, Feb. 20 versus St. Mary’s...Nevada opened the season 2-1 for the fifth time since 2000...Head coach Gary Powers is in his 25th season of directing the Wolf Pack baseball program in 2007...Powers, the longest tenured coach in the history of Nevada athletics, coached his 1,300th game versus St. Mary’s College on Jan. 26...Peccole Park will be the site of the 2007 WAC Tournament May 24-27...Nevada was picked to finish fourth in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll behind Fresno State, Hawai`i, and Louisiana Tech.

AT THE PLATE: IF/OF Matt Bowman had his 10-game(including the final 7 of last season) hit streak snapped in the first game of the UC Riverside series...Bowman was named to the Wallace Award Watch List, the award honors the college player of the year...Bowman injured his shoulder attempting to steal second base in game 2 at UCR last weekend and missed the final game, he is expected to miss this weekend’s Cal Poly series....IF/P Shaun Kort hit a home run in his first collegiate at bat, the 3 run shot came as a pinch hitter at SMC(1/27)...Kort was named the Freshman of the Week by Rivals.com for his play at SMC...Junior designated hitter Terry Walsh was named to the 2007 WAC Coaches’ Preseason team...Bowman hit 2 home runs in game for the first time in his career at St. Mary’s(1/27)...C/DH-Baker Krukow was hit by pitch on his elbow in game 2 at UC Riverside and missed the final game of the series but is expected to play this weekend at Cal Poly...Four players have hit home runs Bowman, Walsh, Kort, and C-Konrad Schmidt...SS-Chris Siewert has hit in all five games he has played in this season and Kort has done the same in his four games played...Kort tops the team and is second in the WAC with 8RBI...2B-David Ciarlo is the only infielder to start every game at the same position...All three of 1B-Dan Eastham’s hits hits are doubles...19 position players have been used in six games played this season.

ON THE MOUND:  Senior pitcher Ryan Rodriguez was named to the 2007 WAC Coaches’ Preseason team...Rodriguez has made 51 consecutive starts since coming to campus and has recorded a strikeout in all 51...Rodriguez ranks fourth with 23 career wins, 290.2 innings pitched, and 236 strikeouts at Nevada, one win, three innings pitched, and three strikeouts will move him into a tie for third in all three categories...The Pack rotation of Rodriguez, Rod Scurry, and Mario Rivera all pitched 5+ innings the opening weekend but only Rodriguez(6.1IP) duplicated the feat the next weekend at UC Riverside...Nevada’s bullpen has allowed 9-of-18(39%) inherited runners to score, 2-of-9 last weekend...12 pitchers have taken to the mound this season...Reliever Kody Keroher has struck out seven in 4.2 innings of which five have been looking...Five of Scurry’s six strikeouts have been looking...Rodriguez’ 11 strikeouts is tied for first in the WAC and his 11.1 innings pitched is first...Scurry and Keroher’s five strikeouts looking is tied for first in the conference...Reliever Ben Colton’s three appearances is tied for first in the WAC.
