PULLMAN, Wash. The Nevada women’s tennis team improved to 3-2 on the year with a 6-1 victory over Portland on Sunday in a match played at Washington State.

The Wolf Pack won five of six singles matches, including four in straight sets, and took the doubles points with two of three victories to get the win.

“It was a very convincing win for the Wolf Pack,” second-year coach Sylvain Malroux said. “After playing a six-hour match the day before, our team came back and played very well. I was pleased with the effort.”

Nevada’s 39th-ranked doubles team of Caroline Bailly and Maria Mizyuk remained undefeated (5-0) in dual play with an 8-2 win on Sunday. That victory combined with an 8-6 win Audrey Bardot and Laetitia Tan gave Nevada the doubles point.

Mizyuk and Bailly each won their singles match in straight sets, as did Tan and Bardot. Ly-Huong Dinh needed three sets but got the win out of the No. 3 position. The lone singles loss for Nevada was Bach-Lan Pham’s straight-set defeat in the No. 4 spot to Megan Sporndi.

The Wolf Pack will be back in action starting Friday with three matches in three days at Boise State. Nevada will meet the host Broncos on Friday and then play Montana and Wichita State on Saturday and Sunday.
