WINTER PARK/ STEAMBOAT, Colo.    The University of Nevada placed seventh in the Denver Invitational held Feb. 2-3 in Winter Park and Steamboat Springs, Colo.

   The Wolf Pack finished with a score of 316 points which was behind Alaska-Anchorage (394), Montana State (409), New Mexico (434), Utah (505), Colorado (534) and first-place Denver (550).

   Katie Lyons had the best weekend for the Pack, placing third (1:53.92) in the giant slalom and fifth (1:35.65) in the slalom.  Freshman Paige Brady led the women in the nordic races with 12th place finishes in both the 10k classic (39:01.6) and 5k freestyle (18:27.8).  The women’s team finished fourth in the slalom, sixth in the giant slalom and seventh in both the 5k freestyle and 10k classical.

  In the 10k freestyle, the Pack had three top 25 finishers led by Dominic Henriques who finished 15th (31:31.9).  Scott Hume was Nevada’s men’s alpine leader in both the slalom (3rd, 1:25.05) and giant slalom (21st, 1:59.64).  The men’s team finished third in the slalom, eighth in the giant slalom, fifth in the nordic 10K freestyle and sixth in the 15k classical.

   On Sunday, the make-up slalom and giant slalom races from the Montana State Invitational were canceled due to high winds that reached as high as 70 miles per hour.  The races will now be made up this Thursday, Feb. 8, in Taos, N.M., one day ahead of the New Mexico Invitational in Red River and Santa Fe.  The event was originally scheduled for Jan. 6-7 but has been canceled twice due to bad weather.
