PULLMAN, Wash. The Nevada women’s tennis team upset the No. 56 ranked Washington State Cougars 4-3 on Saturday at Hollingbery Fieldhouse in Pullman.

The win improves Nevada’s record to 2-2 on the season marks the Wolf Pack’s first victory over a ranked team this season.

“Our team just did an amazing job,” second-year coach Sylvain Malroux said. “After we lost the doubles point, they came back and just played really strong from top to bottom.”

Malroux pointed to Bach-Lan Pham’s win in the No. 4 position as the match of the day. Pham dropped the first set to Bianca Selaru and was down in the second before coming back for a 6-3 win. She was then down 4-1 in the third before rallying, staving off three match points to win in a tie-breaker, 7-6.

“She was the story of the day,” Malroux said. “I was proud of the way she faced adversity and stayed strong mentally.”

Nevada lost the doubles point but got singles wins from Pham, Maria Mizyuk, Caroline Bailly and Laetitia Tan for the win.
