Reno, Nev. The Nevada men’s and women’s tennis teams received historic news when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association release the 2007-08 Regional Rankings earlier this month.
The Wolf Pack women’s tennis, led by third-year coach Sylvain Malroux, had two players receive high rankings as sophomore Maria Mizyuk came in at the No. 10 spot in singles. In doubles, Mizyuk and junior Caroline Bailly were ranked fourth in the Northwest Region rankings, which includes Cal, Stanford, Fresno State, Washington and Oregon, among other schools.
For the first time in more than a decade, the Nevada men’s team has a singles player in the ITA West Regional Rankings as sophomore Laurent Garcin debuted at No. 27. Garcin recorded 10 wins during the fall season and scored victories over a pair of players who are ranked in the top 20. Garcin also made the finals of two singles events the Chandler Cup hosted by Cal and the Pacific Fall Invitational.
The Wolf Pack men compete in the tough West Region, which includes schools from Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Hawaii.
