Q & A with Masako Horino
Horino is a junior on the Wolf Pack women’s tennis team. She comes to Nevada from La Kanazawa, Japan.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: See my friends, listening to music, watching movies
Q: What was one thing you didn’t know about Nevada that surprised you when you got here?
A: The fact that Reno is the second biggest city in Nevada. How dry it is in Reno.
Q: Did you bring anything to Nevada to remind you of home?
A: A lot of Pictures; my city, my parents, my dog
Q: Do you feel fortunate to be where you are today?
A: Yes, for sure.
Q: What attracted you to Nevada?
A: UNR women’s tennis team!!!
Q: What do you think having a diverse group does for the team?
A: Since we all are the international students and away from home, we make each other like a real family. Also, it is fun that we all have different accents when we speak English.
Q: Being from a different country, what are your impressions of Nevada and the States so far?
A: Reno, NV is very different from anywhere I have lived before. Even when I compare to So. Cal., it is like a totally different country.
Q: What has been the biggest challenge in your college experience so far?
A: Running at 6:30 in the morning while the field was still frozen. This, I would never forget in my whole life!
Q: Do you think you can learn as much from losing a big match as you can winning one?
A: I think I learned more when I lost a match than when I won
Q: Is there a food you hate?
A: Macaroni and Cheese
Q: Who are some pro athletes you look up to?
A: Roger Federer
Q: If you could go back in time, would you choose a different sport?
A: Maybe Golf, or track and field
Q: Do you have a pet?
A: A dog in Japan. Her name is Flan.
Q: What is your pre-game favorite routine?
A: Sleep well, and imagine how I would play in the bed the night before the match.
Q: Who is the person that has most influenced your athletic career?
A: Takeshi Ozaki
Q: If you won $1 million, what would you do?
A: Donate for poor
Q: If you had enough power or authority to shut down a fast food restaurant, which one would you choose?
A: Dairy Queen
