RENO, Nev. Cross country teams from Boise State, Nevada, Sacramento State and Utah, will compete in the Nevada Chase Race Saturday, Sept. 2 at Bartley Ranch Regional Park.  The women’s 4000 meter race will start at 9:30 a.m. while the men’s 4 mile race will begin at 10 a.m.

The men’s teams competing are from Boise State and Sacramento State while all four schools, Boise State, Nevada, Sacramento State and Utah, will have women’s teams competing.

This is a handicap style race in which athletes of equal ability will start at the same time.  Groups of athletes will start in 20 second intervals.  The seventh, eighth and higher position runners will start first, the fifth and sixth athletes from each team will start at 0:20, third and fourth place athletes will start at 0:40 and the first and second athletes from each team will start at 1:00.  After the race, the handicaps will be subtracted from each athlete so the final results will show the actual time each athlete took to cover the course.

Nevada opens the 2006 season with eight returning runners and six newcomers.  Kali Baker returns for her senior season with the Wolf Pack having recorded three top 10 finishes for Nevada in 2005.  Ashley Holt also returns for her final season with Nevada.  Holt competed in three meets for the Wolf Pack last season.
