COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Nevada placed fourth in air rifle but didn't figure in the combined team championship scoring here Saturday at the NCAA Championships.
Alaska Fairbanks won its seventh NCAA title with a combined air and small bore score of 4,682. Nevada shot 2,236 in air rifle but did not qualify as a team in small bore.
Alaska Fairbanks took first in air rifle with 2,353 and was followed by Nebraska at 2,344, Army with 2,332 and Nevada with a 2,326 in the eight-team field.
Nevada's Sarah Smith, a freshman, was seventh with a 588 to lead Nevada. Junior Michael Tanoue had a 582, junior Corrie Holmes shot a 580 and sophomore Meghann Morrill scored 576 to complete Nevada's scores.
Both Morrill and Tanoue earned All-America status in air and small bore based on their season totals. Morrill also competed in the NCAA Air Rifle individual competition on Friday with a 579 score.
